Work commenced

First looked at the car on 4th March 2017. It was a state and the owner at the time was putting sticking plasters on an arterial wound.

Rescued on 18th March 2017. Overheated the whole way from Marlow but kept a good 65 mph on the motorway.

A friendly local mechanic allowed me to use his ramp, underside is solid and straight and undersealed.

Who put those silly things on the hoses, where is my screwdriver?

Aha, now I see why it was overheating, perhaps having 30% of the radiator missing and a failed viscous fan coupling would explain it? For a £45 fan coupling and £110 radiator (thanks tickover.co.uk) plus 10 hours to not uncouple the existing coupling (had to buy a new support), it now runs fine. Why the hell would you put a Kenlowe fan on a destroyed radiator? I ran my 2.0 for 9 years with a viscous fan coupling.

I love old cars, they are great for playing hide and seek. Yes I can stand in the gap where the Rad and roll bar went and shut the bonnet.

New Rad, thermostat housing, thermostat, hoses, belts, temperature sender, water pump, viscous fan coupling. Sweet.

Perfect temperature after a run now idling.

Not exactly crabbers hand but cramp and several cuts later I am well happy.

I had to sell my Lexus CT200 and ISF cos I could not drive 3 cars at once, but now I seem to drive the Capri every day. Take the Lexus down the shops.

I guess that is why the rear speakers are not working.

Failed attempt to cut the paint work back to something vaguely resembling original. No chance.

Quick shift gear lever fitted, gear knob, window winders and interior light sourced from a chap in Turkey via Ebay. Canubus green LED dash lights fitted. Existing stereo wiring, old alarm systems etc stripped back to original wiring loom. Ghastly "racing pedals" changed for reproduction rubber to look original.
